Mustangs Top Gryphons In Playoff Hoops Nail-Biter
Adversity, is supposed to build character, but it can also interfere with it, if not handled properly. In sports, when challenged with ups and downs of a season, a team can lose faith and confidence. Doubt can ceep into the mind, about whether or not what you have been practicing and trying to implement all season, is working. The Western Mustangs Women’s Basketball team, have faced much adversity throughout the 2017/2018 season, due in large part to inconsistent play. Over the last 5 games, following a 3 game winning streak, Western lost, won, lost, won, and lost. The last loss, came at the hands of their preliminary round OUA playoff opponent on Wednesday evening, the Guelph Gryphons. The Gryphons, held home court for the game, finishing in 4th, while the Mustangs ended the season in 5th. Both teams would go through adversity throughout the game, having several lead changes, and momentum swinging back and forth between the teams like a pendulum. Western had a significant height advantage in the paint, and exploited it regularly, en route to a thrilling 72-68 win over Guelph.
