Futurehood, a new record label started in September 2016 in New York, features predominantly LGBTQ and POC talent making music in a handful of genres from experimental electronica to straight up hip hop. Created by Mister Wallace and partner Anthony Pabey, one of Futurehood's missions is to celebrate the queer, the black, and the feminine as the identity they serve.

Futurehood's releases are just one example of the many newly burgeoning labels which are owned and operated by queer people of color.  In an interview with the Advocate, Mister Wallace declares that “FutureHood [exists] to resist the [hetero]normativity and to redefine what’s normal. It’s about redefining and creating a visual representation or a physical manifestation in the world that allows people to be like, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s where I am.' "

Friday's first release was queer rapper Rozay Labeija's single "CINNABUNS", a track which the artist says "affirms femmes who have a lil extra junk in their trunks. It's all about body positivity for those who may not always see themselves represented in popular media."
